about us

The Rohingya Youth Association of Portland (RYAP) is led by Rohingya youth and was developed to help Rohingya and Burmese Muslim immigrant and refugee families of Portland, a traditionally low-income and under-privileged community from Asia. According to the UN, the Rohingya have suffered from systematic persecution and genocidal treatment in their home country of Myanmar.  RYAP seeks to help this community in Portland become independent, empowered and established in their new environment. We assist through translation services, case management and help our community find jobs. We serve the community at no charge. Our mission is to enhance economic and social justice and achieve equality for the Rohingya and Myanmar Muslim immigrant and refugee community through organizing, collaborative leadership, and advocacy.  Primary activities include food distribution, ESL, youth soccer, case management, arts programming and farming in addition to our efforts to promote clean energy through home weatherization work and workshops.
